Description

Hazel is a shy new student at Maplewood Elementary who feels lonely and left out as she watches other children play and laugh together. Her days are quiet and uneventful until she’s paired with a cheerful girl named Mia for a school project about turtles. As they work together, Hazel slowly opens up and the two girls become close friends. With Mia’s encouragement, Hazel gains confidence and begins to enjoy school again. However, when a small disagreement arises, Hazel learns that keeping a friend means being kind, saying sorry, and finding ways to compromise.
By the end of the year, Hazel realizes that true friendship is built on caring, understanding, and forgiveness—not just shared activities.
Moral:
Friendship begins when you open your heart, grows when you care for one another, and lasts when you learn to forgive and stay kind.
